How to Reduce Data Usage While Using Couch to Fitness
Please note: we are still testing if these suggestions do reduce data usage. Please get in touch with us to let us know if they work for you!
If you are doing the Couch to Fitness programmes whilst away from your home WiFi (perhaps keeping up with the workouts whilst on holiday!) or are in an area that you need to rely on mobile data - streaming the 30 minute workout videos can make an impact up your data allowance.
Here are some suggestions which may help you reduce data usage whilst sticking with the programme!
Can I download the videos to my phone or tablet?
Unfortunately this isn't currently available for the Couch to Fitness programmes. We are exploring this option as it is one of our frequently asked questions.
Use a 'low data' setting on your device
You might have noticed that sometimes the workout videos appear in crystal clear HD resolution, whilst other times they may have a more pixelated quality. This is because your device will pick the most appropriate video size based on the speed of your internet connection.
Whilst you can't currently choose which video size to receive, you may be able to use a 'low data; setting on your device to restrict the size of video it tries to download.
- On and iPhone / iPad
With iOS 13 and later, you can turn on Low Data Mode to restrict background network use and save mobile data and Wi-Fi usage.
- On an Android device
Chrome browsers used to have a 'Lite' version that would limit data, but since 2022 you will need to look for the Data Saver option in your device settings.
Switch to a shorter workout video
If the above doesn't work, then you could always try and switch to our shorter Bitesize workouts. These 5 minute sessions are made up of 5 different exercises which could be repeated several times to make up a full workout.
